I need medical guidance and advice for my wife abnormality case(congential hip dislocation) as detailed?
Your wife should lose weight and then, if she is fit enough, she should have a hip replacement. After 15 years she can have another one if she needs it. The operation takes a couple of hours, she will spend 8-10 days in hospital, then it will take another 3 months before she can walk normally again without crutches or sticks. One year after the operation she should be fine. The success rate is very good, especially in younger people. The operation can be carried out in Kuwait, there is no need to travel abroad. These operations are among the most common orthopaedic procedures.

Hey judging by the text in your profile you sound similar to my friend Ashley Pagan (Do you know her?). You seem very ambitious and exuberant and excited about life and the world, and such a positive attitude, you sound like someone I'd benefit from knowing as possibly a good friend, what do you say?

Hello Chris,

I reed your profile and you seem like a reel fun guy. Be good to get to know you better and C (to be continued)

Geeze nothing seems to work, what did I do wrong with her? PLEASE PLEASE HELP, EVERYONE!?
There not wrong with that but you have to be careful and she may not be what you expect by way did you ever think of becoming a writer
Reply:My initial reaction is that you need to move on. I don't think you did anything. I get the feeling she's just not that into you. Don't sweat it. Stop contacting her and don't keep bugging her if she doesn't respond.
Reply:You seem to be really worried about whether or not she's rejecting you. Even if you are, don't show that to her. Email her back if she hasn't responded in five days minimum. And don't make it a long one, keep it as simple as, 'just checking up on ya, i haven't heard from you so i guess work is keeping you busy'
Reply:hi i just want to say hello and goodluck finding a gf
Reply:I think you still have a shot but don't forget that she has a second job now too and is very busy. Give her time to breath and I am sure once she is able to get on the computer you will receive an answer. To me it sounds like she is interested.

Good luck!
Reply:I'm not a fan of trying to date online. Human interaction is where it's at. She needs to see your personality as a whole, and you should put your efforts toward that. Don't exhaust yourself through messages.

Seeking advice?

Hello,

I am in high school and so far nothing great has happened yet. I am underweight, i don't start at any sports, no girlfriend, and not so great of grades ethir and I consider myself decent looking. I keep telling myself the next day will be better but in reality everyday is the same for me. Everyday I see the person(s) I want to be like in the hallways. And everday I try to better myself to be the person I want to be. High school has been going by quiet fast and im afraid I will leave high school with nothing but an education. My home life is great I have everything a teen could ask for.

My question are: Why do I feel like everyday is a rerun? I understand I dont have nearly a bad life as a majority of the world but why does life treat others better? Im having a hard time getting motivated towards my goals (college)...why? Maybe i feel this way because I havent "found myself"???

Please dont get the impression im suicidal or anything b/c im not.

Seeking advice?
Every day probally is a re run, but perseverance does pay off, after highshool you may want to consider taking a year or 2 off before attending college, just a thought
Reply:You might be suffering from depression i have gone throw the same sh it i thought the next day will be better but you just gonna find yourself 1 things first you when you have satisfied yourself than the rest will eventually come if you are under weight buy protein from your local GNC and start working out....and if you are a snob that may be something too you have to be gratefully with people that try to help you so don't be and *** you have to be good .......I've have lived this and my home life was a disaster every day was a bit ch but i made it all it looks good...

God spoke to me about hell!?

Hello

I don't know what to do about it; I had this dream that God shoed me hell and told me that I have to speak to the Pope.

He showed me hell!

There were people burning, even new born babies swimming in molten steel. I could hear them squeeling.

It rained flames, and he siad that the temperature was about 1,300*C

There were chambres below where people suffered pain even worse than what these bruning babies suffered.

I was in chambre one.

God siad that chambre 2 is 20 times nastier than chambre 1, and that chambre 3 is 20 times nastier than chambre, 3 and that chanmbre 4 was worse than chambre 3 and so on.

He then wenrt on to say that there was more than 700 chambers, and I saw a new born baby burning in chamber 721.

What can I do to warn the world of this fate of mysery?

God spoke to me about hell!?
stop eating pickles before bed. babies are innocent; why would they go to hell? if all of this is true, then your best bet is to simply pray for people, i suppose. not just people you know, but for the world. i don't think what you saw was actual, but a dream representational of the downward spiral the world is on today. society and culture are losing their morals and values so rapidly it is rather frightening. people are being taught from an early age that feel-good ethics are the social norm, hence all your burning babies. do some meditation and use your dream as a reminder not to let yourself be dragged in along with the crowd. and of course, do what you can to encourage your peers and others around you to do what is truly right so as to preserve a little bit of good in this fast and mad world we live in.
Reply:are you going to go talk to the pope?
Reply:God does not exist, hell does not exist and you need to take your medication.
Reply:The Hell was invented for someone who was so crazy..
Reply:You are so pathetic.
Reply:Stop believing in this horrible BS and see a shrink.
Reply:I'm 100 percent sure you wouldn't have had that dream if you didn't know anything about Christianity, it was just a dream which means you made it up. And I'm also 100 percent sure this isn't going to convince us atheists there is a God.

Besides why would there be a newborn baby in chamber 721, what the hell could they have done that was so bad to get them there, they must have murdered a lot of people in the very short time they were alive huh? Simply amazing.
Reply:YOU NEED TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST PRONTO!
Reply:It is probably symbolic of your inner world and psychology.

Often your subconscious will take outer symbols that are very familiar in culture, and use them to represent aspects of your inner self or inner world.

Not to say your inner world is hell! Just saying the dream could symbolize a situation or inner struggle, or suffering.

Respectful question regarding crucifx with/without Jesus figure?

Hello and can I just apologise in advance if I offend any Muslims with this question, which is a serious one.

I was baptised a Christian and recently- with the world being the way it is- I have been thinking about prominently wearing a crucifix. So can someone of the Christian faith answer the following?

I am a Scottish Protestant and in some way, I have always been led to believe that those of the Roman Catholic faith wear crucifixes which incorporate a figure of Jesus of Nazareth. Whereas, a Protestant would wear a PLAIN crucifix. Is this supposition correct? For instance when I saw the lady who was suspended from BA I noticed she was wearing a plain crucifix, so presumably must be C of E.

Am I correct in this? If it's true I'd be interested how it came about.

Respectful question regarding crucifx with/without Jesus figure?
protistants would normaly wear a plain cross but they do not see it as a lucky charm the way catholics often view the crusifix. it is only a reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made but we know he is now in heaven with God the father
Reply:People that believe Jesus dispensed his grace by dying on the cross wear and have the symbol of a CROSS, not a CRUCIFIX. The crucifix is a Catholic symbol that Jesus is basically in essence still dying on the cross everyday for our sins and grace is dispensed piece by piece little by little through the sacraments while Christians believe that all a person need do is accept Jesus as Lord and he has the grace of God in full and the forgiveness of his shed blood.

So that is why a Catholic crucifix has a dying Jesus on it still and the Christian cross is empty. It is all a matter of grace. So what does the Bible teach about grace? Which is more accurate to say?
Reply:Generally, your observations are true.

For Catholics, somewhere in the world the Mass goes on 24 hours a day seven days a week, commemorating Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross. (a good thing)

For Protestants, we generally celebrate the victory represented by Resurrection Sunday, when Jesus was no longer on the Cross. (also a good thing)

[former Catholic, now Protestant]
Reply:Most Christians who wear a cross wear a plain one the thinking being that Jesus is not on the cross-He is Risen, It is a Roman Catholic tradition to wear a crucifix. The earliest Christians did neither of course--it would never occur to someone who had witnessed an actual crucifixion to wear an image of one as jewelry or use one as decoration.
Reply:I'm not sure that there is a hard and fast rule, but in general your assumption is correct. Those crucifixes with the figure of Jesus on tend to be worn by Catholics and those without by protestants, though I have known Catholics to were crucifixes without the Jesus figure and protestants to where them with, though this is not common.
Reply:you are free to choose any you like but years ago the protestant faith always had the plain kind to distinguish them selves from the catholics who they said were to idolotrous and worshiped statues and finery ....... sorry for the boring history
Reply:Personally, I feel that the use of the plain cross is more appropriate, that we should show the world Jesus is no longer on the cross but is risen and at the right hand of the Father. This is IMHO of course not a rule but a conviction.
Reply:If you do some investigation into the origins of the cross, you will find that Jesus was not crucified on a cross but a stake. It was many years after he died that certain religious heretics started the false doctrine of the cross. Even then, would you want to wear a symbol of the instrument that killed a loved one? A cross is a way for merchants to make money off religion. Just like they do with the holidays. That is why in the book of Revelation it says the following:

18 After these things I saw another angel descending from heaven, with great authority; and the earth was lighted up from his glory. 2 And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: “She has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen, and she has become a dwelling place of demons and a lurking place of every unclean exhalation and a lurking place of every unclean and hated bird! 3 For because of the wine of the anger of her fornication all the nations have fallen [victim], and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the traveling merchants of the earth became rich due to the power of her shameless luxury.”

Babylon the Great is false religion. Any religion that teaches false doctrines about Christ, such as the cross, hellfire, trinity, and the immortal soul. These are the antichrist because they teach doctrines that are against Christs teachings.
Reply:Crosses are a sect specific religious symbol, I think most christians would not wear one but the minority sunday kneeler sects such as Catholics often do.

Christ himself was not nto this religious symbolism and the cross is by definition a post christ Christian symbol, surely it shold be wooden not gold if it is to have any symbolism.
Reply:I prefer to wear a crucifix as opposed to a cross, just as a reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

What you need to keep in mind though, is that they are just jewelry. Your true beliefs are in your heart! If I lost my crucifix, that wouldn't mean I lost my faith. God always has and always will be a major part of my life. Heck, He's the reason I am who I am...!
Reply:I just want to make one thing clear first... Did you accept Jesus as your savior, or did you just get into the baptismal and get wet? If you did not accept Jesus as your savior and repented of your sins, and just got into the baptismal, all you accomplished was to get soaked and wet. I pray that you also accepted Jesus as your savior. Baptism alone will not get you into heaven, You must be born again through acceptance of Jesus as your savior, and repent of your sins. I do pray you are truly born again, and congratulation for that if you did. Praise the Lord!!

You dont have to wear a cross at all, to show your love for the Lord to the world. That love can be seen in how you live, talk, act, and share the word of God with others. It can be seen in how you handle life's difficult situations.

When people see that you are accepting and trusting in God, and that you dont' get bent out of shape when things go so very wrong, they look at you and say to themselves..." I sure wish I could be like that person is when I have troubled times". Then they ask you how you handle things in such a peaceful way.

You see... you dont have to wear any cross on the outside, as long as you have Jesus living with you on the inside, and He is no longer on the cross. Praise the Lord. He has risen and is alive today!!!

1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

This is what a person is doing when they handle rough times in there lives through their faith In God. They are doing it for the Glory of God. He gets all the credit for your inner peace, and then you tell them how they can acquire that same inner peace, by you introducing them to Jesus. You will truly be blessed abundantly for it.

God bless you.
Reply:pROTESTANTS TAKE jESUS OFF THE CROSS SIGNIFYINY hE IS RISEN OPPS why Catholics leave Him on there is not in my understanding but I wish to say this. We are told explicily to be of one accord and to love each other that our witness not be spoiled and many not recieve God into their heart.

These little ideas are from little minds full of pride and pride leads the way to a fall, and in the end these ideas are used by merchants to cause and profit from war because they see the differance fan the flames mix in a little news of mans inhumanity to man which is twisted into a religious ferver and the lovers of the God of Abraham (and no doubt others as well) kill each other over these ideas.

"NOW WE SEE IN A MIRROR DARKLY" YET WE THINK OR WANT TO SEE CLEARLY AND KILL EACH OTHER OVER BLURRED VISION.

JESUS WEPT
Reply:Wear it close to your heart.
Reply:You are right. The Protestants wear the plain crucifix as a sign that Jesus has risen from the dead.
Reply:I think you should wear whatever you feel comfortable with. Personally, I choose a simple cross as a personal reminder, but I have a Catholic friend who wears a crucifix. It's a matter of personal choice.

I am concerned for you, though, because you said that you were "baptized a Christian." Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, or is Christianity just a religion to you? Please examine your heart and make sure that you are truly a child of God and not just a religious person. Religion in and of itself is meaningless, without salvation through the blood of Jesus.

May God reveal Himself to you, and may your heart be fully receptive to His Word. :)
Reply:I've been led to believe the same thing. I highly doubt it's a hard-and-fast rule, but I've noticed the same tendency.
Reply:WHY ARE YOU WORRYING IF YOU OFFEND ANOTHER RELIGION.

You have a faith and civil rights no matter where you are in the world. I am British and so proud of it I live in a nation that lets people pray to whomever they choose. I have a religion and as long as I dont force it on others I can show my pride in anyway I choose, that could be by wearing a habit, a simple cross and chain or a tshirt saying C. O. E. and proud its my right and i wont be told other wise.

Other religions exorcise the right to dress, pray and even preach in our our country and soon complain if we even look at them funny (this includes catholicism too not just muslim etc)

Please bear in mind that if a woman goes to iraq, iran, syria, they are expected to conduct themselves in that countrys tradtions or face penalties.

I thank god everyday that i am British and have freedom.

I dont wear a cross but i own one. given to me by my grandmother as something to remember her by, it has Jesus on it and I am COE I didnot know of the difference between them but I did not see it as an issue as 1 religion prays to the father and the son and the other to the father and the sons biological mother. Which always has made me wonder if Catholics pray to Mary why didnt they let women in their priest hood?
Reply:I think that you are correct... (and I do not care if I offend a muslim or not).. the emblem of the Cross is worn plain because we emphasize the Resurrection... whereas the Catholic emphasizes the sacraments and they are saved through mother Church... (supposedly)
Reply:This is what I have always heard too. I`m going to put this question on my watch list. I`d like to know also. Thanks for asking it.
Reply:My immediate reaction to a crucifix is that the wearer is a Roman Catholic or Anglo Catholic. It is customary for Protestants to wear plain crosses, to emphasise the all important fact that Jesus rose from the dead. Personally I wear a Huguenot cross. I wonder if the uninitiated would recognise it as a religious symbol? http://www.huguenotfellowship.org/cross....
Reply:Don't apologise in advance to people you might have offended. This is a reasonable question as to the source and truth of a stereotype. If anyone is offended by it, it's their problem and not yours.
Reply:Yes, traditionally Catholics wear the crucifix, Protesants wear a cross.

In my mind it doesn't matter. If you find the crucifix more meaningful, wear the crucifix.
Reply:I have never heard this, but i wear a plain cross. The reason is because my Lord and Savior Jesus isn't on that cross--he was taken down and rose the third day to reign. the empty cross to me represents what Jesus overcame. The cross with Jesus on it seems (to me) like they believe it isn't finished yet.
Reply:The bible teaches not to wear jewelry at all.

1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.
Reply:There's no such thing as a "plain crucifix". A crucifix is a Cross with the crucified Christ on it. This is what Catholics wear. Protestants wear a cross without Christ...and is called a "cross". Sometimes the high church Anglicans might wear a crucifix.
Reply:I've always been taught the same, and I've spent time in Catholic and Protestant churches (I'm a Protestant). Wear what you want, but some people are offended by crucifixes. I know some elders who think it is disgusting (not my opinion, but each has their own). Maybe talk to your pastor to make sure you won't offend anybody if you wear one.
Reply:Wear which one YOU like.

Don't worry about who you'll offend..........or which faith has which crucifix, or whose going to see it.

Wear which one you like and be humble.
Reply:Many Protestants believe the 2nd commandment forbids pictures of Christ plus the fact any representation would not be true to what He really looked like.
Reply:Generally speaking, Roman Catholics tend to be more apt to wear a crucifix with the Corpus (body of Christ) than a Protestant, who will often wear a plain cross or Celtic cross without the Corpus. The term "crucifix" generally implies the presence of the Corpus, whereas a "cross" need not have the body represented. There are many types of crosses and crucifixes, including the traditional Orthodox cross. I have seen a number of Protestants wearing the full crucifix on Good Friday. Other Protestants feel that the crucifix is morbid, remembering the dead Christ rather than honoring the risen one. However, whichever one you choose to wear is ultimately up to you.
Reply:A crucifix, according to my Oxford english dictionary, is the cross with an image of Christ on it. Anything else is simply a cross.

I am a Christian, from a british new frontiers church, and I have worn a cross on a chain since BEFORE I became a Christian, so for me it's not just an expression of faith, it was my husband's 5th anniversary gift to me, so woe betide anyone who tried to tell me I couldn't wear it! My cross is an expression of my husband's love for me although it means more than that now of course. How could anyone tell me not to wear it?
Reply:It is perfectly acceptible to wear a crucifix. I personally think the ones that are plain without the figure of Jesus are more accurate since it more eloquently shows that Jesus made the sacrifice but is not dead. A crucifix with the figure on it leaves me with a lingering image of suffering and sadness which is not what Jesus left us with. He left us with Joy for he conquered the grave and ransomed our souls. I guess it is basically whatever you feel.

Do Obama's supporters even know what he stands for?

I know a lot of people are impressed with his "articulateness" but personally I think he's a communist. Most of Obama's supporters say they like him because "he's for change." Wow, you are gullible. It was very predictable that his campaign would use that slogan. Most democrats used that in the last election simply because people are tired of Bush, and it paid off.

So besides "because he's for change" which of Obama's policies do you like? Yes, Obama supporters, you may now google Obama and find out what he stands for and then answer the question.

We are very fortunate that people look at the truth for themselves, and that no one cares what some random guy thinks. Your first order of business should be to find a dictionary and look up the word "communism," since it's clear that you don't know what that word means.

If you're going to call him a communist, at least back it up with something substantive. I don't think you know what communism is. I've seen NOTHING from Obama that would lead me to believe he's a communist. Some of his views are SOCIALISTIC, but not communistic.

And, like it or not, in a world of depleting resources and rising poverty levels, socialism is going to become the norm as a means of survival. The days of excess and vulgar mass consumption are coming to an end. Obama recognizes this, while McCain is still living in the Cold War era.

well first off why dont you explain your theory of him being a communist or can you?

First off "his policies arent in effect" what he wants to change has been said over and over again in every freaking debate its like a broken record are you deaf or just so blinded by wanting hillary to win that you try this little political attack add?

Ok Hillary (collects special interest) lots of it. Obama and Edwards were running to "change" that (theres that word change) and what is he trying to change? i just said it hope your eyes are or were open he introduced and put into law in his state that people are able to view who is taking special interest money and who is bundleing. It is so obvious that hillary is a goo rue at this.

So lets review the first thing he is trying to change (there that word is again) special interest directing there policies and making the laws.

Lets see genius why would he do that????

How much profit did Exon make this year?

How much did the drug comp. make this year?

Oh its kinda refreshing you a bit isnt it. So what is he trying to change and why is he trying to change it?

Ok simple by decreasing or getting rid of same old same old politics (special interest influence and bundling) they do not make the laws and if they dont make the laws Obama who if is president will give us the "people" a say so in our own politics making us the firm decision makers in our own policies

WHICH IS THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

Hes adding that seaspan add another channel that way politics is just a dinner table away so you can see if your taking it up the butt or if they are making good choices yet again giving you the power to have a choice in your politics.

This is a policy its every policy its a trickle

trickle

trickle

down policy

you get rid of special interest influence what happens?

drug prices go down

oil prices become steadily cheaper

comps. wont make the laws you will have a direct say in much

of it

and isnt that what obama is fighting for policy wise? affordable health care////afordable gas///afordable living? better treatment of our soilders when they come home///an end to the war waisting billions that could be used for education which is yet another policy

did you know that special interest groups even have there hand in you and maybe your childs education college education? lol hes trying to give a tax credit to students of 4000 dont you think that helps?

Do Obama's supporters even know what he stands for?

I know a lot of people are impressed with his "articulateness" but personally I think he's a communist. Most of Obama's supporters say they like him because "he's for change." Wow, you are gullible. It was very predictable that his campaign would use that slogan. Most democrats used that in the last election simply because people are tired of Bush, and it paid off.

So besides "because he's for change" which of Obama's policies do you like? Yes, Obama supporters, you may now google Obama and find out what he stands for and then answer the question.

The rev dr kamal karna roy says some truth , some units of we the people in usa, may not ike, truth is truth?
My goodness, we are obsessed today, now aren't we.

He can't be communist.

I know you don't know what communism means, so please read on, and when you get down to the part about the free ride our elected officials are getting, why don't you take that issue on instead of this obsession?

===========

Socialism

a theory or system of social organization in which the means of production and distribution of goods are owned and controlled collectively or by the government.

Communism

a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.

There are no candidates that even come close to those two models.

Currently, in the USA, we are a federal republic with democratic principles under a capitalistic economic system and socialism for needed services.

Those needed services are things such as:

Military

Police

Public Education

State, federal and city infrastructures are a mixture of socialism and capitalism working together.

Welfare

etc.

The only area where we are lacking socialism with needed services is our medical system for the average American. Yet the ones who pass the laws, our federally elected officials, enjoy a socialistic medical system. We have to put up with the BS from insurance companies.

Most people have no idea what we are, what kind of government we really have, how that all breaks down in the most simple terms, which would make it blatantly easy to see the contradictions.

I really wish the nay sayers about universal health care would, at the very least, demand that our elected representative stop giving themselves a free ride, or come to the realization that socialism for needed services can be a very good thing for the welfare of our country.

Plus, universal health care is guaranteed in our constitution in the preamble.

========

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense,

promote the general welfare,

and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

===============

Anyone who says the preamble doesn't count doesn't realize, if that is ignored, then we must ignore the whole constitution. Every word counts.

===============

Life is so simple, but we insist on making it complicated

Enough credentials for UCBerkeley Haas, Business Major?

Hello! I'm a Berkeley hopeful. :)

91.7 average on freshman year

91.3 average this year. (with two APs: AP World History and AP Computer Science A. Hopefully will take into account.)

My schedule junior year will look like:

AP Calculus AB

AP Lang

AP Biology

Adv Web Design (Web Design Team at my school)

U.S. History (on-level)

H. Spanish IV

Senior year:

AP Econ Micro/AP Econ Macro

AP Statistics

AP Literature

Physics (on-level)

Adv Web Design

AP Spanish

estimated SAT score: 2250

Extra-curriculars/Main credentials:

-I am the co-founder and director of a non-profit organization. By the time I apply for college, it will be incorporated, 501(c) certified, reasonably large within my state and maybe a few locations in neighboring states.

-3 years of Varsity tennis (will be, anyways)

-4 years of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), various FBLA competition awards

--

Do I have a reasonable chance to get into Haas? Anything I should do to make my chances better?

Thanks! :]

Enough credentials for UCBerkeley Haas, Business Major?
Well, you stand a decent chance of getting into Cal if you are a California resident (but the UC system uses the 4-point scale, so you'll have to recalibrate your grades and see). The requirements for out-of-state folks is a bit higher, but you do show a lot of leadership skill, which helps (apply for the Alumni Leadership Scholarship!)

But the thing about Haas is that you have to apply for it at the end of your second year. You enter Haas in third year, and competition for space is tough. You will be competing against other Cal students whose marks were as good or better than yours in high school. But those don't count. What counts is your Cal GPA and your performance at Cal.

I knew Haas grads, and they were talented folks. But it's not impossible to get in. Just do well in your studies.

I'm 19 and a woman. Air force VS Army?

Hello. I'm a girl looking to join the military because of job security, the physical/mental challenge, scholarship money, and a better understanding of the world. From what I've read on Y!Answers, it seems that the majority of people recommend joining the AirForce over the Army b/c of laxer physical standards, better living conditions, and 'family friendly' environment. However, the Army can guarantee the job of my choosing, has more chances for promotion, and offers more scholarship money. BUT the downside is longer deployments. Personally, I think ground combat is where it's at, but the easy AirForce sounds appealing as well.. as it provides a smoother transition to civilian life.

I'm planning on doing ROTC to serve as an officer in military intelligence, signal corps, finance, or jag . Could you offer your advice/experience?

p.s. Navy is Ok.. I'm not too fond of the water.

I'm 19 and a woman. Air force VS Army?
If you're interested in intelligence then do Army. I was in and its interesting, fun, and you're always learning new things. Your job training is in AZ which in my opinion is the best freaking place on earth and you get plenty of leave time to enjoy it.
Reply:I know you're not asking, but I don't think anyone who wants what you want should join any branch at all. The military is for war, to apply force to foreign enemies. Don't join it for job security, or a better understanding of the world. It's not a jobs program, it is quite literally a learn how to kill program. Every MOS is designed to support killing the enemy(for good or bad dpends on the point of the war, which is your call). Intelligence, JAG, these are to support the killing.

It's appealling to have a place you know you can be accepted, but college isn't any more difficult to get inot. There are lots and lots of college, and community colleges will almost sutomatically accept you and you can subsequently transfer. Scholarships really are easier to get than they seem, at least partially, and student loans only need to begin being paid after you are done with school.

Most importantly, the "better understanding of the world" you will get in the Army OR the Air Force will be pretty myopic. Would you expert a muhadjeen fighter to have a realistic view of you? I think the harder and more rewarding challenge is to make it after high school without using the military as a taxpayer funded-crutch. If you really, really believe that the current war is worth fighting, then that is a different story. Good luck from someone five years older than you who took a path different from the one you are leaning towards.
Reply:Air Force is tops however they have very high standards. (Note: I made it by one point) You'd be better off by joining the Air Force but the Army people are ok too. Most people in the Army tried for the Air Force but didn't make it. Nothing wrong with the Navy. They take the best of the best too. (Note: I served there too. Good people) What ever you choose you will learn something. Don't think the Air force is all easy. Some of those people work long hours and are under much stress to keep those planes flying. About Basic training in air Force:.... One still must run a couple of miles per day in the Air Force and do the standard push ups and strict inspection during boot camp. What ever you choose I hope and wish you the best.
Reply:People who say the AF is easy are people who were turned down by the AF.

The AF does not except anyone like the Army does. The AF spends more time and money training you properly than the Army, and is not as family friendly as people in other branches think it is. It always depends on the job and the duty station. My husband I had jobs in the AF that were FAR from family friendly, which is why I did not re-enlist. We were both SF (security forces- cops.) We were married 4 months before he got orders to my base, but I was deployed and so we did not live together until we'd been married 8 months (this was 99 and deployments were only 4 months long.) Anyway... we got pregnant and told to plan for the baby to live with family because we were both going to be deployed the following summer, the our daughter would have been 2 months old when we left and we were not able to go to the same location (I was going to kuwait and he to saudi.) So I choose to not re-enlist.

When our 2nd daughter was 2 weeks old we got a call from his squadron telling him to pack his bags, he was leaving in 10 days. He asked to extend his leave until he had to leave (so he could spend more time with the baby) and they said no. She was 7 months old before he got to see her again.

Housing is changing everywhere, we've had good and bad housing, infact the houses we lived in at our current base we had to move out of because the whole neighborhood was considered condemned and the AF tore the houses down.

Army doesn't have more chances for promotion, they just do promotions differently. The Army promotes eary, then slows off at E-5/ E-6. The AF promotes E-1 thru E-4 without any testing, but after 3 years you can test for E-5. How well you do on the tests and other things (EPR's) and how many they are promoting in your field will determine if you get promoted.
Reply:The Air Force has the highest percentage of women in its ranks and its officer corps. About one in five personnel is female.
Reply:I'm not in the military but my boyfriend is in the Air Force and his brother is in the Army. When my boyfriend was thinking about what branch to join, his brother told him over and over again "DO NOT JOIN THE ARMY". That is from someone who loves his job and is proud to be in the army. He felt that the Air Force is a better choice for anyone right now.

But only you can decide what is the best choice.
Reply:Hon, the Air Force is almost universally considered to be the best branch of the service. And also, the Army will lie to you for sheer sport. They almost NEVER keep their promises. The Air Force has really GOOD officers, lots better food and dining areas, cleaner quarters, and better educational opportunities. I was in the Navy myself, but long ago, and wouldn't know what to tell a lady about that.
Reply:Go where you get the best deal...make sure it is included in your contract. Rank comes faster in the Army (enlisted) Officers are about the same across the board.

Don't rule out the Coast Guard. Give them all a look and make your own decision

Good luck and thanks

Is learning Java as a first language a bad idea? if so what would you recommend?

Hello, would learning Java as a first language be ok? If not why and what would you recommend? I want to start with "main line" languages, I have learned some python but feel like its more of a waste of time because its not really being used in the computer world (or atleast it seems like) for example python programs can only be used if someone else has python installed. I think it is good for learning how programs work but I feel like I'm not really going anywhere learning it, I know it will take long to learn Java, or any C language but at least I can be making programs that everyone can use easily and be headed in a better direction if i go to college for it. Correct me if I'm wrong, after all I'm just a beginner but thats how I feel...

Is learning Java as a first language a bad idea? if so what would you recommend?
the basic programing language is the first language you want to learn because it is what is incorporated to everything else.
Reply:Java is a good language to learn as a first language. I know that from experience and my language portfolio has grown ever since. You do however need to install Java still to run in although it can be installed easily on many systems and the Java will automatically handle most of the code changes e.g. in user interfaces and their appearance.

There are loads of materials out there on Java and you can create programs in a matter of seconds once Java is installed. I found a good start was the 'Java in Easy Steps' book, it dives right in to programming and gets you started.
Reply:A lot of programming languages are "only good if (it) is installed" so don't let that deter you. There's a big move towards .NET and that framework has to be installed! Albeit, windows update will take care of that.

Java is a good first language because of 3 reasons. It's relevant, it's fairly easy, and its syntax is found in other languages.

I started with BASIC, and I've never been able to get my head around anything but QBasic and then Visual Basic. A base like Java should help you get your head around C++, etc.

BASIC is by no means incorporated into everything else.
Reply:Yes, surely you can. I'm a computer engineering student, and for the first year, we had a course named "Introduction to Programming %26amp; Algorithms". For this course, we started with Java and believe me, since you got the idea of programming, and a little about Object Oriented, it's so easy.

You can learn it by reading a book, or tutorials from the net. I don't think it'll take too much time to learn. It's graphical things take a little time but important thing is to get the idea. If you have already practised loops, if-else conditions etc (in Pyhton for example), it'd be more easier for you.

Take it easy! :)
Reply:What worked best for me was starting a the very bottom....

machine (1's and 0's)

then got to assembly uses words to implement the (1's and 0's)

both are very low level (more understandable for the computer)

then move to higher level

C, a little of C++, then Java

It really makes you appreciate the numerous tools that higher level languages do.

This is what would happen if you did Electrical or Computer engineering at the University of Texas...(machine, assembly, C, C++, java)

a good book to look at to learn more about low level programming is :

introduction to computing systems

from bits and gates to C and beyond

by Yale Patt

that book will keep you busy for awhile... good luck
Reply:The simple answer is yes. But to go on.

Java is a an Object Oriented language so firstly you need to understand the concepts associated with this prior to learning the language. Now if you've learnt this with Python you should be OK. If not, then there is a learning curve to firstly learn these concepts.

It is also a good language to learn since you can usually begin coding up quite rapidly with minimal understanding of areas such as "pointer" errors, though not completely. It someways it is more forgiving then languages such as C and C++. The other advantages is that a compiler is basically available for most platforms and doesn't cost the earth (just a download) and is used in a number of corporate projects to integrate systems.

In terms, of what is used on the Internet though Perl and Python seemed to be used more often but that shouldn't stop you learning Java. In the short term 3-5 years it should provide a good career in a programming role and assist you to learn up other languages.

Air Force is more female friendly. There is nothing wrong with the Army though.
Reply:Don't know where the lax physical comes in I'm in better shape than my brother in-law who was Navy and I'm Air Force. We both have been out for a while even then I was in better shape.. The physical regiments are not the same for all branches Marine are the hardest with Coast Guard at the bottom.....Believe me all branches require you to STAY in shape year round Even when your on IRR.

Reply:The air force is more lady friendly. Of course youre going to run into these self proclaimed alpha males everywhere you go that insist on making you feel like crap because youre a woman. But the Army, as I have found it, is very bad with respect to this. Ive never seen so much disrespecting of females in my life. But anywho if you want combat, youll probably see that no matter what branch you join. Its all about your quality of life. The air force is definately more family friendly and their quality of life is better. The army sucks *** in my opinion. I have several friends who went the Air Force route and they like it because aparantly they put more emphasis on the job then on being an actual soldier. I had a friend who was formerly air force then came into the army and he likes the air force way better because youre not treated like a common slave like you are in the army. But if you still cant decide, flip a coin.
Reply:Like you said the Army will guarantee you, your job. Matter of fact, you will be allowed to choose the job of your choice. The Army places you in an actual job, not a job field. The physical is tough in the army yes, but it will make you stronger, physically and mentally if you decide to leave the army. Our scholarship is more and chances to get your education is a lot easier in the Army.

As far as promotions go, you can be promoted up to PFC/E-3 before you even go to basic training. Or you will be an E-2 within 6 months and an E-3 within 12 months maybe sooner. You can and will be promoted quickly in the army as long as you do the right thing and keep control.

Look at the deployments, all services are deploying at record paces and record numbers, our deployments maybe longer but you will get more for it. hope this answers your questions.

Welcome to the Army

Reply:Just like my dad told me, "Never join the Army, and that was the mistake I made. I have been in 4 conflicts and saw too much. They own me. Son, join the Air Force because they will atleast treat you like a human being." And he also said, the only major job choosing "is being a piece of meat and shooting all the rest."

Now, my dad is the biggest patriotic person and probably messed up in the head from seeing death staring at him in the eyes. But, since he has major Army pride and told me to join the Air Force I'm pretty sure theres a reason for it. He's fought in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. And I have been damn proud of him because he has been in service since I was a baby, and I'm 18 years old. I hope this doesn't look like so much as an opinion as it is a first hand account from my father.
Reply:You've already hit on the fact that the Army offers more opportunities and quicker promotions. In the end, it all depends on what you feel better with. GO ARMY!
Reply:Haha, I'm going to join the army too(currently 16 :[ ). ROTC=Entering as an officer. So do ROTC. Also, because we're women we can't do combat, but the Airborne is closest to combat. And trust me, I want to do combat. So when you get into ROTC just tell them you want to become airborne
Reply:Recommend read "Band of Sisters", a book about women from all branches of the military and accounts of their military combat experience downrange (Iraq and Afghanistan).

Obviously everyone here has given you their personal opinions and it will be up for you to decide.

All branches are honorable and all provide promotional opportunities based upon merit.

I'd encourage you to try to speak with actual women in the Army and AIrforce and get their opinions. this is a big decision, and I like that you're using foresight.

You go girl.
Reply:Hunny, i come from a military family and my brother was the same like you are now. He asked around which military branch to get into. %26amp; everyone told him the U.S.A.F. %26amp; he said he didn't like that but yet they kept on telling him that he wouldn't be going to the middle east if he went into the Air Force. Well they were wrong, his recruiter told him that more than likely since we do have troops from all branches over there including the national guard(s), the Air Force would have military bases over there in the middle east just like Japan, and China, and Germany, %26amp; etc.......%26amp; the Air Force are the ones that have to hold down the forts over there after the Marines and Army %26amp; Navy pull out (whenever the decision is made).

So my brother took the Army b/c his recruiter is right. %26amp; was right. Right now my brother is in the Army and has 2 months left till he comes home to the base he's stationed at.

Other than that, whichever branch you get in, it depends on the job you have and how high you scored on your ASVAB Test to see if you can get into Intell., Signal Corps, or JAG or any other job out there in the branches.

I have an "E-Newsletter" that gets to me from a military website and other emails from other websites, and about the the whole college tuition being paid by the "G.I. Bill." The government is adding more money to the G.I. Bill so service members can have more tuition available %26amp; also you have something that has to do with Veterans pay for tuition and school. ((((%26amp; that whole thing about the G.I. Bill should be for all military branches, not just the Army))))).

Plus i do think if i remember correctly that you of course have to take a PT Test (Physical Training Test) which sees where you are at and if you are qualified to join the 5 branches. But all the branches for PT test are different to join, as you weight requirement, heighth requirement, healthy body, eye sight good, hearing good, etc.....

Like for example, the Army just upped their physical requirement to join from 134 lbs. to in between that weight and 155 lbs. depending on what heighth you are. %26amp; i think the military goes by heighth first and then by your weight. You either have to lose or gain weight. It's very strict.

%26amp; if you are planning to go to ROTC, make sure you get to officer or if not up that far in the ranks in college, then make sure you take it first, b/c no matter branch of ROTC you are in, you still get an extra rank for being in it %26amp; then you can also go on ROTC scholarships. If you become an officer in ROTC or JROTC, then you can go to OCS (Officer Candidate School) to learn how to be an officer and aka be a brown noser. LOL!

%26amp; Remember you have to be prepared to NOT tell anyone even family or your closest friends about intell. and what you do or how you do it or what missions you go on or what missions you are on and helping the missions and units. That is "IF"!

But make sure you get all the details from the military branches you are looking into. %26amp; another thing is, if you go for one job the Army you can always change it to another job in there. Any other branch, you can't.

%26amp; just FYI, recruiters will and do lie to get you in. So i would ask ex-military persons what its like, but also times have changed since they have been out and in too. %26amp; another good way to ask in going up onto yahoo chat rooms in the military chat rooms. There are tons of military people that will answer your Qs too.

Good luck.
Reply:In the military women are not put directly into combat (front line speaking), they are not authorized combat jobs (infantry, Field artillery) there is a higher Physical Fitness Standard but it is for your good trust me. you've probably heard more about the Air Force because they dont work as much and have alot more time to do this than SOLDIERS. If your wanting to get close to combat GO ARMY
Reply:Just to point something out about guaranteed jobs. The Air Force has guaranteed jobs and guaranteed areas. Its your choice if you want a guaranteed job or area.

The Army guarantees training. They do not guarantee that you will be doing the job that you sign up to do. They guarantee that you will be trained to do that job. Its on their contract.

I had a friend that signed up to do a computer job in the Army. He never got to do his computer job. He did get his training for the computer job during the last 6 months of his enlistment. They needed him else where for the first 3 1/2 years. You are always a soldier first in the Army. If they don't need you as a soldier first, then you can do the job you signed up to do.

I got my guaranteed job in the Air Force.
Reply:As a veteran of the Navy as a Corpsman and the Army as an M.P. . I can only speak about them from personal experience. I had great training in both, I was placed in life or death situations in both, and I lived through them both. If you are going ROTC... may I suggest J.A.G. ?
Reply:I am a retired Marine, and the WM's are some tough women, ever think of the Marines?

Also tough yet beautiful...almost left that out..yikes
